"Spit and Baling Wire"
A repair foreman at the MBTA realized that he could tape a 5 cent hairnet to the intake filters on subway trains so they don't get clogged with melted and re-frozen snow. It should save the T $126,000 a year in repairs. It's a great idea, but it begs the question; Why weren't the motors fitted with internal filters by the manufacturer in the first place?
